Youth Arts Initiative

Research shows that young people who participate in the arts are more likely to succeed in everything from learning to life. Because access to quality arts education continues to decline, Boys & Girls Clubs of America has partnered with The Wallace Foundation to provide innovative, high quality arts programming for tweens and teens. The Boys & Girls Clubs of the Austin Area’s chapter of Youth Arts Initiative (YAI) is active in five Austin-area Clubs, providing arts education to kids 11 – 18 years old. The programs feature a myriad of skill sets to propel young artists towards a successful career in the field.

YAI currently serves middle and high school-aged kids by developing their digital art/media skill sets, which includes Claymation, animation, videography, graphic design, digital illustration, audio recording, and photography. With the help of professional artists, Club members are encouraged to explore different forms of digital media, growing their skill sets on multiple digital formats.

Professional  Training & Mentorship

YAI Graffiti Tour Field Trip

Mentorship from local artists are key component to the YAI programming. Not only does this engage the community in a meaningful way, it also provides Club members the opportunity to learn from professionals and leaders in the art community. YAI provides field trips to members, introducing them to local studios, museums, and art exhibits around the City of Austin. These opportunities are critical for young artists to become more well-rounded and knowledgeable about the world of art.
