On June 17, Boys & Girls Clubs of the Austin Area (BGCAA) welcomed back NFL legend and BGCAA Board Member Jamaal Charles for the 4th Annual Jamaal Charles GameDay. This two-day experience brought together Club youth for friendly competition, meaningful mentorship, and unforgettable moments at our Manor football training field and Home Club on the Sheth Family Campus.
“If you really want to pursue your dream, try your hardest and do your best. Don’t try to be somebody else, be yourself and others will see that and believe in you.”
Nearly 200 Club members and teens from across our summer programs took part in the celebration. Day one connected teens with Jamaal Charles and former Houston Texans and Cleveland Browns player Derrick Lewis through friendly games and conversations about leadership, resilience, and reaching their goals. On day two, elementary Club members teamed up with Jamaal and former Dallas Cowboys player Amon Simon for football, teamwork, and fun.
Helping make the event even more memorable, Derrick Lewis and Amon Simon also encouraged and connected with Club members playing alongside youth and sharing their own experiences. Leading by example, they reinforced the qualities of a champion—hard work, perseverance, teamwork, and confidence—both off and on the field. Through experiences like Jamaal Charles GameDay, Club kids gain more than memories; they build the skills, character, and confidence to become the next generation of champions and create Great Futures.
