The Hook ’Em for Great Futures Sports Clinic put Boys & Girls Clubs of the Austin Area’s Health & Well-Being pillar into action, giving members a chance to embrace active lifestyles, build teamwork, and strengthen emotional resilience—all while learning valuable lessons in leadership and collaboration.
Hosted at the Home Club on the Sheth Family Campus, the clinic united UT student-athletes and Moody College of Communication class with BGCAA youth for a day of skill-building, mentorship, and connection. Through sports and conversation, Club members experienced firsthand how staying active and supporting one another contribute to both personal growth and community well-being.
Highlights from the day included hands-on sports clinics led by UT student-athletes that combined fun with skill development in basketball and football, along with encouragement from BGCAA Board Member Jamaal Charles and CBS Sports Analyst, Brian Jones, who emphasized how teamwork, discipline, and heart play a role in success both on and off the field.
From obstacle runs to basketball drills, our Club members gave it their all during each session of the clinic. Working in small teams, they cheered each other on through agility challenges and skill-building exercises—learning that success isn’t just about athletic ability, but about communication, perseverance, and teamwork.
“When our youth see leaders who invest in their growth, it reinforces that they, too, have the potential to lead, to achieve, and to make a difference in their communities. Experiences like this empower our members to believe in themselves and the futures they can build.”
Boys & Girls Clubs of the Austin Area extends its appreciation to UT, the Texas Moody program, Jamaal Charles, Brian Jones, and all the student-athletes who made this experience possible. Partnerships like these play a vital role in advancing our mission to ensure every child has the opportunity to lead a healthy, balanced, and successful life.
