Our Vision for Great Futures
In a community that is experiencing explosive economic growth, we must not forget those who are most vulnerable. In Travis County, the number of children living in poverty has grown 149% since 2002. The number of economically disadvantaged youth in our community is approaching 90,0001 – a startling number that continues to grow daily.
Too many young people in our community are falling through the cracks – dropping out of high school, becoming teen parents, making dangerous decisions, and limiting their prospects for a healthy future.
5 DECADES OF GROWTH AND ACHIEVEMENT
Boys & Girls Clubs of the Austin Area has experienced tremendous growth through a focus on partnerships with Austin ISD, Housing Authority of the City of Austin (HACA) and others. This growth has uniquely positioned the Club to impact the lives of children and families who need us most.
OUR PLAN FOR CONTINUED GROWTH AND IMPACT
While we are proud of our history of service and the 12,000 young people per year that we currently serve, we realize we must do more – and we are committed to doing so.
Our goal is to substantially decrease the gap between the number of kids we serve and the number in need of our services. In our efforts to serve more young people who need us most, more often and with greater impact, we will continue to partner with Austin ISD, Del Valle ISD, HACA, and Southwest Key Programs.
In addition to these strategic partnerships, a critical piece of our growth strategy is the construction of a 32,000 square foot state-of-the-art Boys & Girls Club facility – a Home Club that will allow us to serve an additional 1,100 young people and their families. This Home Club is critical to helping close the gap of providing quality out-of-school time programming to those who need us most.
