BGCAA Gets Active with UnitedHealthcare Donation of Hasbro NERF Game Kits

Jun 15, 2018 | Past Stories

Today at Galindo Elementary School members of Boys & Girls Clubs of the Austin Area received Hasbro NERF ENERGY Game Kits from UnitedHealthcare as part of a national initiative that encourages young people to become more active through “exergaming.”

Encouraging healthy lifestyles is one of three core areas of impact for Boys & Girls Clubs, which exist to help kids and teens in becoming caring, responsible, and productive citizens. On a local level, the initiative provides our Club youth with a fun and engaging tool to promote greater physical activity among youth.

Marian Cabanillas, president, UnitedHealthcare Community Plan of Texas joined the elementary-aged Club kids in kicking off events. Members then demonstrated how the kits work with the help of Dr. Health E. Hound, United Healthcare’s mascot, who lead the group through exercises and relays that included jump-rope, hula-hoop, ladder runs, lunging, and fun exercises using the NERF game balls.
