July 17, BGCAA interns from Ladders for Leaders, Classroom Readiness, and Youth of the Years visited the state capitol for a first-hand experience in leadership and civic engagement.

At the Texas State Capitol, they met with Texas State Representative Senfronia Thompson and gained a behind-the-scenes look at public service. From the House Chamber, they engaged in conversations about leadership, government, and how they can make a difference in their own communities.
The group then toured the House of Representatives, where staff from the Office of the Speaker of the House and the Sergeant-at-Arms shared an inside look at their roles, the daily operations of the Capitol, and internship opportunities available to young people interested in public service.
“Meeting Representative Thompson wasn’t just an incredible opportunity for me, but also a truly inspiring and memorable experience. Hearing her story, learning about her journey, and seeing her dedication to serving others motivated me to work even harder toward my own goals.”
